Coach Zhang Fan has shown a great variety of moves off the underhook tie up. But, how would a wrestler defend against an underhook or Russian tie up for that matter.

Thanks for taking the time to answer these questions.

I just watched Coach Halls videos. I now have a better understanding on how to defend against these 2 attacks. Thanks.

Dominic,

If you need to see more video clips to address any area on this specifically, let us know. I believe Coach Hall will be contacting you about your question.

Blessings,

Lisa

Keeping your elbows in with short arms (like Dan Gable shows in this video)

- keeps opponents from getting a good 2-1 or an underhook.   From a stance position - make sure you have head position and then work for ties (reaching with the hands for shoulders is never a good idea for defending 2-1's.   Tadaki Hatta used to coach me with the Dave Schultz wrestling club and he would always say attack head, hands, elbows - but stay off the shoulders (bad place to be).    There are some set ups that are able to come from the shoulders - but you should teach to never hang out there - for the most part - head position and inside ties and angle drills are what you are teaching your wrestlers so they never let a guy get an underhook or two on one - (as Gable says - not waiting) always have an arm tied up with a wrist -sounds like you found some of the counter offense to 2-'1's and underhooks with Dennis Hall - but if you want some specific videos on getting out of 2-1's or underhooks feel free to e-mail me and I can send you more
